The little island called Donsö

Like I said in the last blog post we went to a little island of the west coast. It is about a 30min ferry ride. There are no cars on the island (well a few, but mainly for building and stuff) they all ride cute little scooters or golf carts. It is really cute. Talk about some clean air. We have really good friends that live there so we actually visit it quite often. It does not have beaches like Hawaii (but who does) it’s perfect for the kids. A little bit of sand and some cold water. Actually it wasn’t that bad. I would recommend the island to anyone visiting. You can walk the whole island in maybe an hour and half. The houses are beautiful and the views from the rocks are amazing. Some amazing spots to swim. We went to a different one each day. The last one we went to was the best as it was just the easiest with having a baby who wants to crawl. The best place to eat on the island is call Isbolaget. Serioulusly so good. Hubby got the smoked salmon twice. The meals are good and you actually get a lot (in europe you tend to get really small plates) as well it’s design is really cool, minimal but still bringing comfort. So here are some images of our couple of days there. The pictures are from the three days we were there.

Enjoy

I didn’t want to do another post and I just liked a lot of the images so there is a lot. Sorry… not really.

Dust bunnies

If blogs could collect dust this blog would have so many dust bunnies! I mean really.. I can’t even believe how long it has been. It’s almost been so long I felt like maybe I should start a new blog and start all over, but then I thought that was a dumb idea. Its like an old journal that got lost and is now found. I hope to be blogging more…… I will not promise because if I look at my history with blogs it’s not that great. Which is strange because I think blogs are fabulous. What a great way to document your life. I just reread a couple of my blogposts here on this blog and was flooded with memories. So here I go again!

I thought I would start of with my husbands birthday. We went to Donso for two days, just to get away. We where staying at a friends house who was gone. It was perfect, the weather was fantastic, almost too hot! I know I can’t believe I just wrote that. The kids loved it. My father-in-law joined us, he is down here for the summer. I feel so blessed to have these people in my life, they are the greatest gifts in my life. I am also so glad this hubby of mine is another year older! Birthdays are so much fun!

We followed the Swedish tradition of waking him up with breakfast (I think you are supposed to do a cake but I didn’t make one the night before and I wasn’t waking up at 6am to bake)and then packed our bags to head to the island for two days.

I have a whole bunch of photos of the island but I will save that for the next post.

The little baker

carrot cake photoOne of the many things Le’i wants to be is a baker. Yes, isn’t that so cute? I at least I think it is. He also wants to be a cowboy and a prince. Hahah I love little dreamers, the world is theirs.

Anyway Le’i loves loves loves loves being in the kitchen with me. Sometimes its so fun and others times it drives me nuts. When it drives me nuts I think about how fast life is and just suck it up because one day he will be out of the house. So I try to do special things to make/bake with him. This week we made a carrot cake. We are secretly hoping this will bring spring to Sweden. When I think of spring/Easter I think of carrot cake so that’s what why we made this cake. This was my first carrot cake I have ever made. It was delicious! So moist and fresh tasting! Although I think I will do a try a different frosting reciepe next time. It was a little to sweet for me. Have you made a carrot cake before?

I wasn’t able to take many pictures of the cake because we brought it over to a friends house for a fika (tea/coffee break). So I quickly got one shot. Next time I will do better.

I know I said I wanted to be a better blogger and I do. But for some reason our little house just keeps getting sick. We were fine all winter long and now we can’t shake it. Poor little guy has had a fever and a cough till today. Hence why I finally have a chance to blog. He is out playing and not wanting to cuddle anymore.

Cheers to spring!

30 days of filming

Okay so I am taking this 30 days of filming challenge from February the 1st for 30 days. I am really good at capturing moments in photos, but horrible getting things filmed. HORRIBLE! There is so much happening in our life these days, its a perfect time. Everything is new and I want to remember it. Plus when will my son be 5 and 3 months old again. NEVER.
So here is what you are to do. HERE

30dayproject2

I know this say camera but guess what I am doing it all from my iphone. All of it. Cause not everyone has a fancy camera and I want to show you can do it with an iphone.  Plus its almost always with me.

Annie and Erica join this challenge with me.

The key is everyone, it doesn’t need to be perfect!  I just needs to be you!

When we see the sun, we jump!

The weather is Sweden is not what you would call ideal.  I would say most Swedes don’t care or like it.  Its grey most of the times.  It really hasn’t been a bother, which is awesome.

But let me tell ya,

when the sun comes out we run to the sun.  No really we get so excited, we go for walks, stand in front of the windows etc.  Makes you want to do a happy sun dance. 🙂 Today I actually had to pull out my sunglasses to drive.  Imagen that!  I realize how much I took the sun for granted while living in Hawaii.

The snow has left us, which I am not a fan of.  It makes it so much darker. By the way the sun rise at 8ish and sets at 4ish.  Crazy!  The snow helps stay brighter plus its just beautiful. The funny thing is it will most likely come back.  The weather here in Sweden is very confused.  What kind of weather do you live in?Image

Learning a new life!

Sweden in some sense has been a whirlwind for me.  So much has happened in 5 months.  We have moved more than three times, traveled up north (9 hrs one way) twice, seen beautiful days and not so beautiful days!  In Hawaii we were beach people, like we went to the beach more than once a week. Now we are living in a winter land where it has been -10c for the last couple of days…. freezing for these beach going people. Le’i three days ago finally said mom I really want to go back to Hawaii its to cold.  That’s not bad since we have had winter since late October.  Today our heating went out…… you can only laugh. As I write I am sitting with my uggs, scarf, and a lot of layering.  But I swear that s what makes living so fun.  We are bundled up dogs and all and watching Cake Boss.  Le’i has now asked for every cake they have made on the show for his birthday. Mr. and I just laugh.  It just a bit we are going to help our neighbors in their barn. They are adding new stable  for the horse.

Ok so horses….. my dream! When I was little I think I asked for a horse every year for my birthday till I was 16.  No really!  Of course I knew I was never going to get one.  We were poor and my parents had four children. You do the math! Anyway since being in Sweden horse are all around me. I love it!  Plus our neighbors are so kind and let me ride.  God is good.  He always has a way of showing His children that He loves us.  Here are some images of us up north with Stefan’s aunt horses. These are Icelandic horse, which seem to be very popular here in Sweden.  You ride them completely different, needless to say I have learned the hard way.

Summer fun

It’s a beautiful summer day here in Sweden, which means you must be outside. It’s so funny how the weather has been a daily conversation between the husband and I. We never talked about weather before. Anyways the house we are renting for the next three months ( I’ll do a house post soon) has an amazing garden with beautiful flowers and fresh veggies! If you know my son he loves loves flowers. So he wanted to something with all these flowers in our yard. So this is what we did. We wanted to make two but soon realized we didn’t have everything we need and one was perfect!
Have a splendid weekend!
XOXO
