The little island called Donsö

Like I said in the last blog post we went to a little island of the west coast. It is about a 30min ferry ride. There are no cars on the island (well a few, but mainly for building and stuff) they all ride cute little scooters or golf carts. It is really cute. Talk about some clean air. We have really good friends that live there so we actually visit it quite often. It does not have beaches like Hawaii (but who does) it’s perfect for the kids. A little bit of sand and some cold water. Actually it wasn’t that bad. I would recommend the island to anyone visiting. You can walk the whole island in maybe an hour and half. The houses are beautiful and the views from the rocks are amazing. Some amazing spots to swim. We went to a different one each day. The last one we went to was the best as it was just the easiest with having a baby who wants to crawl. The best place to eat on the island is call Isbolaget. Serioulusly so good. Hubby got the smoked salmon twice. The meals are good and you actually get a lot (in europe you tend to get really small plates) as well it’s design is really cool, minimal but still bringing comfort. So here are some images of our couple of days there. The pictures are from the three days we were there.

Enjoy

I didn’t want to do another post and I just liked a lot of the images so there is a lot. Sorry… not really.

The little baker

carrot cake photoOne of the many things Le’i wants to be is a baker. Yes, isn’t that so cute? I at least I think it is. He also wants to be a cowboy and a prince. Hahah I love little dreamers, the world is theirs.

Anyway Le’i loves loves loves loves being in the kitchen with me. Sometimes its so fun and others times it drives me nuts. When it drives me nuts I think about how fast life is and just suck it up because one day he will be out of the house. So I try to do special things to make/bake with him. This week we made a carrot cake. We are secretly hoping this will bring spring to Sweden. When I think of spring/Easter I think of carrot cake so that’s what why we made this cake. This was my first carrot cake I have ever made. It was delicious! So moist and fresh tasting! Although I think I will do a try a different frosting reciepe next time. It was a little to sweet for me. Have you made a carrot cake before?

I wasn’t able to take many pictures of the cake because we brought it over to a friends house for a fika (tea/coffee break). So I quickly got one shot. Next time I will do better.

I know I said I wanted to be a better blogger and I do. But for some reason our little house just keeps getting sick. We were fine all winter long and now we can’t shake it. Poor little guy has had a fever and a cough till today. Hence why I finally have a chance to blog. He is out playing and not wanting to cuddle anymore.

Cheers to spring!

Swedish love

So I want to start a new thing on my blog and I wanted it to be about Sweden. Meaning a designer, brand, food, place, people….etc you get the idea.  As I am here living in Sweden I learn something almost everyday that I am amazed by. Swedes are incredible people.  With many skills and you would be surprised how many things you have in your house that are Swedish.  I figure Fridays will be my Swedish highlight blog post.

It looks like the best little candy shop.  It’s all decorated like the 30s and 40s.  Plus the girls that work there dress like it too. From what I understand it’s not a uniform it’s there way of life.  Oh I would have loved to live in the 30s and 40s its one of my favorite decades.  Even my engagement  ring is from that time.

candy store sweden photo

It is in Stockholm which I do not live, but I can not wait to visit this little store.  It will  be on my list of things to do when I visit the city.

For Christmas this year the Mr.’s cousin made homemade candy that looked very similar to theirs. It was so good we couldn’t stop eating it.   How good theirs must be.

One thing I love about Sweden is they have candy every where.  I am talking every where!  But the funny thing is the kids eat candy only on Saturday.  They call is “lördagsgodis” which means Saturdays candy.  The kids stuff them self silly with candy on that day. The idea behind it is kids will only it candy once a week which will help with dental issues.  Not sure it works or not.  We have loved bringing  this rule into our house.  If Le’i is given candy he knows he can not have it till Saturday.  The only problem now is that he ask almost everyday if its Saturday. We love going to the candy shops. It makes me think about how our parents rode their bikes  saved their 5 cents got a coke and candy. At least I heard those stories.  Next time I will take some photos of the candy store.  Although you can also buy them just in your local grocery store ( which where most people buy).

I hope you have enjoyed this first little post about something Swedish.  If you know there is something here and you would like me to find out about it drop me a line.

Where did February go?

Seriously! February was not so kind to us! Like really not kind, but it also brought us one of the best surprise ever (more on that later)! I got so sick!  Even one of the dogs got sick.  It  was horrible.  I am so glad February is over.  Plus March has brought the sun to this winter.  Yippee!!  Its been so pretty these last couple of days. Please bring SPRING!

I know the last time I posted it was about the video, which I am still going to do. I was not able to video every day as for two weeks I didn’t leave my bed (no really). So I will be working on it in the next couple of days. HAHA it’s mainly Le’i and the dogs. Not sure how exciting it will be.  The thing I did like was that I started thinking more about video and documenting things in our little life.

So little update our closets are almost finished. Yes, I can stop living out of my suitcase!  The chicken coop is almost done.  Yes, we are getting chickens!  The house came with a coop and a sheep shed ( I guess that’s what you call it). It needed some renovation and stuff so we have been working on that.  I am still in awe that we will be having chickens, I am excited but also find it so funny   Here come the new little farmers.  Since spring is coming we are looking to plant our first little garden.  Oh my gosh so much to learn about gardening.  It truly is an art form.

My cooking is getting better and better…..well at least I think so. Finally getting used to grocery shopping here in Sweden, although I still have moments where I am calling the Mr. and asking him what the heck I am looking at.  Good times I tell you.

Yes this does happen every now and then.   Sometimes you want to feel the warmth!

Also I will be devoting more time to this blog!  I know you all want to know more about my country living. 🙂

30 days of filming

Okay so I am taking this 30 days of filming challenge from February the 1st for 30 days. I am really good at capturing moments in photos, but horrible getting things filmed. HORRIBLE! There is so much happening in our life these days, its a perfect time. Everything is new and I want to remember it. Plus when will my son be 5 and 3 months old again. NEVER.
So here is what you are to do. HERE

30dayproject2

I know this say camera but guess what I am doing it all from my iphone. All of it. Cause not everyone has a fancy camera and I want to show you can do it with an iphone.  Plus its almost always with me.

Annie and Erica join this challenge with me.

The key is everyone, it doesn’t need to be perfect!  I just needs to be you!

When we see the sun, we jump!

leiinsnowsuit,quicksliver

The weather is Sweden is not what you would call ideal.  I would say most Swedes don’t care or like it.  Its grey most of the times.  It really hasn’t been a bother, which is awesome.

But let me tell ya,

when the sun comes out we run to the sun.  No really we get so excited, we go for walks, stand in front of the windows etc.  Makes you want to do a happy sun dance. 🙂 Today I actually had to pull out my sunglasses to drive.  Imagen that!  I realize how much I took the sun for granted while living in Hawaii.

The snow has left us, which I am not a fan of.  It makes it so much darker. By the way the sun rise at 8ish and sets at 4ish.  Crazy!  The snow helps stay brighter plus its just beautiful. The funny thing is it will most likely come back.  The weather here in Sweden is very confused.  What kind of weather do you live in?Image

We are back!

I have not blogged in forever…. first we finally moved into our house. Yeah happy dance! It’s perfect for us! We love everything about it. It’s small and needs some (a lot of) work, but who doesn’t like a little hard work. We feel so blessed. Its our little country house!

It feels so nice to finally have a permanent place.  For the first time in 5 months we have our own home.  We can stay in it as long as we want! I actually feel  like I am finally living in Sweden.  Plus we finally have internet. We didn’t have any internet for over a month.  I thought I was going to go insane, but I also loved it.  So much quality time with the family.

Also I wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year.  I was sick and in bed before 12. It was a 24hr flu or something.  HAHA plus we are getting old, we could barely make 12 anyway.

It’s really good right now in Sweden, like freeze your butt off. It’s a huge change for Le’i and I but we are embracing it and loving all that this winter wants to bring us!

I am very excited for 2013!  Change is coming and I am embracing it with open arms.

So here is too hip hip hip horray to 2013

Little red house.

I can’t believe it, we finally have a house.  I think I pinch myself everyday!  I am so thankful the search is over.  When friends said it was hard to find places to live in Gothenburg or the surrounding areas, I thought to myself I am not picky so it should be fine.  AH! I wish being picky where the problem.  Ok its stupid crazy how hard it is to get a house, apartment, or a shared room(not that we wanted a shared room).  Basically there are way to many people trying to live here.  You have three universities, plus your normal business and then people who just want to live in the city add that all up you get “NO ROOM IN THE INN”.  On top of that you fill like you are auditioning for the apartment.  I have never had to write so much about ourselves to get somewhere to live.  In Hawaii if you can pay the rent you can have it.

So on to the happy news, we have a little red house.  I am so excited to start decorating and feeling like I am settled.  I have loved the house we have rented for the last three months everything about it has been perfect, but not my home.  I will forever be grateful for it and the memories but I can’t wait to make new memories in our little house.  I can’t believe we have lived in Sweden for almost three months.  CRAZY

Red house: two rooms, two bath, living room, kitchen and a cute little deck!  It’s in the country. Its perfect. Its only 30 min drive into Gothenburg. Its country and city at the same time.  We keep joking that for my birthday Mr. is going to buy me a lamb to start our farm. HAHA Not really going to happen but it could.  I told him I just want to make it through our first winter.  The nice thing is our neighbors have horses, and sheep so Le’i and I am sure will go there often to see the animals.

If you can’t tell I am just a little excited about our new little place. I don’t have any pictures of the house but I will put some up asap.  We don’t get the house till the end of the month.  I will post before and after images of the place. I feel like after this move Sweden will start to feel like it’s really my home.

Update on how we are doing: Le’i is in pre-school and loving it. He is picking up Swedish so fast. I am amazed.  We walk to school every day 15 walk, and we love it. We talk, pray, and just enjoy holding each other hands.  I swear he is getting smarter, more attitude, and making us laughing even harder.

Mr. he is fine.  Being our rock as we learn the language.  Make me laugh everyday.  Getting used to being back in his country after being gone for 15yrs.

Me. Good now that we have a place to live.  School is ok, I don’t love it.  I feel like I am not learning much right now. I can not wait to crack the code. My tan lines are almost gone.  I laugh when I think 10 celsius is warm.  Excited for the winter and christmas.

Here is a picture because every post is best with a picture. Lei baking with Mr. cousin and morfar (grandma)

Life….

Wow, I know its been forever since I blogged. To be honest in my head I have written everyday! I know that doesn’t count.

Life has been crazy.

We are in our second month. I am officially finished with all my paper work!  I am so glad its over. I have just finished my third week of SFI (Swedish class for immigrants). It’s so good and horrible at the same time.  I had no idea I would be going to school everyday from 830 to 1130, so I guess that’s my main issue.  Plus on top of that my teacher will not speak English (they can speak but don’t) which is also good and horrible at the same time. I have 11 classmates, each one of us are from a different county and they don’t speak any English either. So class can be quite long at time.  Our Swedish isn’t good enough to have a good conversation yet so we all just sit and stare.  I can’t wait till I speak.  Or crack the code as they say.

We were given a car, which was such a blessing and still is. It broke down. 5 hours in a random gas station.  Hoping to get it back sooner than later.  God is so good.  At first I was really upset that the car broke down.  I was talking to God going why give us a car and then have it break down three weeks later (a major break). Then I thought about it a bit more.  Every time I got into the car I felt His blessing in our lives!  It was so huge and so big. I got to thinking.  If the car is fixable or not for three weeks I felt His presence and His blessing in my life in way I haven’t felt in years.  It was worth it, even if we only had it for a week!  My attitude fully changed and it turned out to be a lovely Sunday after all. 5 hours in the gas station turned into great quality time with the family as well as telling a lot of fun stories.  Le’i was so good! Really even the lady at the store complemented him.  We are still waiting for it to be fixed and hoping it doesn’t break the bank.

Weather: The Swedes say it’s the worst summer and fall they have had in 60 years.  That pretty much sums that up.  It is getting cold, not unbearable yet but cold.

Here are some images to tell just a little bit of what has happened since I last blogged.  Hoping to step it up now that I feel like I have school a little under control. Did I tell you how much home work we get?

Exciting news we got a new little niece, September 25th! Tuava Nyx Eriksson!  So happy and excited for my brother-in-law and wife. She looks like a doll.

Le’i started his first day of pre-school here.  Mr. and I spent the whole day with him there.  More on that in another post.  I think/know he will be speaking better and faster than me.  Sucks to be me. 🙂

Umm  every kids dream…. the candy stores in Sweden are amazing.

We got another dog.  Yes!  Crazy I know.  That is a whole story in its self.  We were not looking for her or wanting another dog.  Hugo is stoked to have a girlfriend. More on the sweet little on called Nikita (already named).

Swedes are so crafty!! No really!  Mr.’s aunt made this from nothing no pattern just looked at one of his store-bought one and look at this master piece.  It even has designs in it.  Blown away.  Amazing and he looks good in it.

This is a very broad wrap up as much more has happened then this.  Untill next time xoxo

Still warm…slippers and all

Ok I think the Swedes would still say its warm. Yes, it is warm but it would be a winter day if we were still in Hawaii.  So I have a little mix up in my style.  I am dressed for the cool breeze but still hoping for the warmth of the summer.  Hence the slippers.  You just can’t take Hawaii out of this girl!

I am still perfecting my style shoots, to be honest it feels a little weird posting about what I wore. Even though I love reading others style blogs. Its seems so vain!  🙂 These images where taken with my iphone. Sometimes its just easier.   So here is me!
